Mercedes-Benz OH 1626 L Euro 5 Bus Shipment from Cikarang for Export to Thailand
The national automotive industry has achieved another significant milestone. Daimler Commercial Vehicles Manufacturing Indonesia (DCVMI) together with Daimler Commercial Vehicles Indonesia (DCVI) officially released one unit of Mercedes-Benz OH 1626 L Euro 5 bus from the assembly facility in Cikarang for export to Thailand on Thursday (1/15/2026).
The bus unit was sent from the factory to the port before being shipped to the destination country. This shipment marks the first export of a Mercedes-Benz bus, fully assembled in Indonesia, to Thailand, highlighting Indonesia’s readiness as an international standard bus manufacturing center in the ASEAN region. The bus, Mercedes-Benz OH 1626 L Euro 5, which was exported, uses the Legacy SR3 Neo Panorama body produced by PT Laksana Bus Manufaktur. The bodywork is specially designed to comply with international regulations, European safety standards, and the specific requirements of the Thai market.
The combination of Mercedes-Benz chassis technology, which has been well-tested globally, and the capabilities of the domestic bodywork industry demonstrate the strength of local collaboration in producing export-ready products of high quality. This move also shows that Indonesia not only acts as a market but has stepped up as a base for global standard commercial vehicle production.
The bus export to Thailand is evidence of the long-term commitment of DCVMI and DCVI in developing regional export strategies. Indonesia is positioned as a manufacturing hub capable of serving both domestic and international market needs. This aligns with the statement made by the Minister of Industry of Indonesia, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, during the inauguration of the new DCVMI assembly plant in Cikarang in June 2025.
The technical features of the Mercedes-Benz OH 1626 L Euro 5 include various primary safety features like standard Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), rear engine configuration for vehicle dynamic balance, and a sturdy chassis frame designed for long-term durability. As for PT Laksana Bus Manufaktur, they assure that the bus body meets stringent European safety standards.
Director of DCVMI, Shravana T. Kumar, expressed that this shipment demonstrates Indonesia’s readiness to produce complete bus solutions that meet European and regional standards. He emphasized the long-term focus of the company on quality, safety, and sustainable growth in ASEAN.
Similarly, Commercial Director of PT Laksana Bus Manufaktur, Alvin Arman, stated that Indonesian-made bus bodies now meet global safety standards and adapt to the needs of the target markets. With this export, Indonesia further solidifies its position as a strategic manufacturing base for Daimler Trucks in the ASEAN region.
The synergy between Mercedes-Benz’s global technology and local industry partnerships forms a solid foundation for expanding exports, strengthening the regional supply chain, and creating added value for the domestic industry. This step is expected to open up further export opportunities to other ASEAN countries, reinforcing Indonesia’s role as a producer of European standard commercial vehicles at a regional level.
