Roy Suryo and his companions are expected to appear for questioning as suspects in the case involving allegations of fake diplomas of the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), on Thursday (11/13). The three suspects scheduled for questioning by the investigators of the Metro Jaya Regional Police are Roy Suryo, Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, and Tifauziah Tyassuma, also known as Dr. Tifa.
Their legal counsel, Ahmad Khozinudin, confirmed that they have received a summons to appear for questioning as suspects. “Regarding the summons, we will comply as law-abiding citizens,” Khozinudin said when asked on Monday (11/10). He further explained that their presence is to demonstrate that they are not afraid to face the legal process in the police.
On the other hand, regarding the pretrial efforts following the designation of Roy Suryo and his companions as suspects, Khozinudin mentioned that they are still considering it. “We are not considering or taking pretrial at this moment because pretrial is a legal right, not a legal obligation,” he said. “So whether we will pursue it or not will be based on the interests of our clients, whether it is necessary and urgent. If necessary and urgent, we will take that step.”
Previously, the Metro Jaya Regional Police designated eight suspects divided into two clusters in connection to the allegations of Jokowi’s fake diplomas. The first cluster consists of five suspects: Eggi Sudjana, Kurnia Tri Rohyani, Damai Hari Lubis, Rustam Effendi, and Muhammad Rizal Fadillah. They are charged under multiple sections of the Criminal Code and the ITE Law. The second cluster includes Roy Suryo, Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, and Tifauziah Tyassuma, also known as Dr. Tifa, charged under various sections of the Criminal Code and the ITE Law.
In this case, investigators claim that Roy Suryo and his companions spread false accusations and misled the public. This conclusion is based on examinations of 130 witnesses, 22 experts, and a deep dive into 723 pieces of evidence. “The investigators concluded that the suspects disseminated false accusations and digitally edited and manipulated diploma documents using unscientific and misleading methods,” said Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief Irjen Asep Edi Suheri in a press conference on Friday (11/7).
